Post Independence, the Pharmacy profession and education have undergone a tremendous change as a provider of healthcare services in India. Currently, the pharmaceutical industry is also undergoing unprecedented changes. Kumaun University took a great initiative in 1997 to start the Pharmacy course at the undergraduate level catering to the needs of one of the remotest and most difficult hilly terrains, with a temporary setup at Chemistry PG Block at Nainital and subsequently shifted over to Bhimtal in October 2004.

Admission Criteria:
B.Pharm Course: Qualifying exam (Intermediate/10+2 examinations) order of merit or as otherwise determined by Kumaun University from time to time.
M. Pharm Course: Merit list is prepared on the basis of the result of B. Pharm or as otherwise determined from time to time by Kumaun University, students are admitted through counseling.
Ph.D. (Pharmacy): According to university policies, candidates for the pharmacy PhD programme will be admitted after passing an entrance exam administered by the Directorate of Research & Extension.
Major highlights and Achievements of the Department:-
The first educational institution in the state to launch postgraduate courses in four disciplines of pharmacy (Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Pharm. Chemistry, Pharmacognosy)
The first educational institution in the state to launch a Ph. D. programme in pharmacy in order to facilitate research endeavours.
State Pharmacy Council, Government of Uttarakhand, Dehradun, has designated the Department as a Center for Continuing Education Program.
All of the students have been placed successfully in MNCs or elite companies.
The majority of students attended reputable universities in the nation to complete their education or continue their studies.
