WEST GEORGIA MEDICAL CENTER

My experience as a medical student at Georgia in Akaki Tsereteli State University, Faculty of Medicine, Georgia

When I first came to Georgia in 2019, I was very scared as to how the university will be, how the professors will be, how will I stay alone, and a lot of other things were on my mind.

I still remember I came to the Akaki Tsereteli State University a few weeks later than the start date due to a delay in my visa application.

The first class I attended was a Histology class and I was a bit late for my first class as I did not know the bus routes or anything. So, I took a taxi and ended up at the railway station as I couldn't communicate well with the driver. The language was the first and one of the biggest barriers I faced when I came here. Finally, I reached the university and attended my first lecture on histology. To my surprise, the professor told us that we would have an exam the next day. I was so nervous as I did not attend many classes and there is a rule that your attendance should be at least 50% for giving an examination. But we spoke to our coordinator, and dean of the faculty, and then we were allowed to give the exam.

As we all see the pictures, we forget that there's something outside in the real world. When I first stepped on the university campus, it appeared very different from the pictures I'd seen. It was huge, and our Faculty of Medicine was enormous. Slowly, I began to adjust to the surroundings.

Doctors Emergency Room

Our University took us all during our first year on a trip to Batumi and a Miniature Park, it was a good initiative and made us know places, enjoy time with my classmates, and get to know the faculty well. Every year my university organizes an annual Medical Party for all the new freshers, teachers, faculty members, and all other senior-year students to enjoy this time.

One thing that I have learned in my university life till now is that you always have to keep trying and do your best every single day, each day is going to be hard but we have to end the day with a smile and think about the next day and how we can make it better than the previous day.

Every year my university hosts a medical conference where all medical students can participate and there is a workshop also which takes place, I have participated in the First Aid workshop at my university and it made me learn about Basic Life Support (BLS), Emergency care for children, adults, and patients.

Medicos Party

The picture above is from the recent medical party hosted by my university. There were various dance performances, stalls for hot chocolate, and some cookies to munch on. There were speeches held by our dean of faculty and also the Rector of our university. It was a great and wonderful evening to remember.
