Welcome to another Docscopy section, Parul Soni of MedBound Times had an opportunity to have an exciting conversation with Chiropractor Jeremiah Jimerson.
Dr. Jeremiah Jimerson graduated from Northeast College of Health Sciences in 2005. He has two facilities, the Chillout Charleston and Elite Performance and Pain Centre in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. He has 16 years of experience in Chiropractic Practice.
Dr. Jeremiah Jimerson is also a social media educator on TikTok, Facebook and Instagram, popularly known as Younger You Doc, and a functional medicine practitioner. He talks about longevity, stress, anti-aging, circadian rhythm, health hacks, diet and lifestyle changes.
Parul Soni: Sir, Can you please tell me about your professional journey?
Dr. Jeremiah Jimerson: Absolutely. Well by training, I'm a doctor of chiropractic. I have worked as a treating physician at Ironman Triathlons and have treated professional sports teams like the Buffalo Bills. In the shortest amount of time feasible, I want to get patients out of pain and performing at the pinnacle of their sport. I completed a portion of my residency as one of the first chiropractors in the US in a pilot program at a veterans hospital. I practice Active Release Technique at the master's level.
Parul Soni: What facilities do you provide in your clinic?
Dr. Jeremiah Jimerson: We specialize in soft tissue and movement-based pain and rehabilitation. We specialize in Active Release Techniques (ART) and movement assessments, and my goal is to get patients out of pain and moving as soon as possible. Our Massage Therapy, LED light treatments, and Cryosauna are one of the best in the city.
Parul Soni: Why did you change your path and go for Functional medicine? Do you still practice as a chiropractor?
Dr. Jeremiah Jimerson: Yes I am still practicing. But, fairly early on the traditional model just didn't make sense to me. You know typically chiropractors are taught, when the bones are out of place let's pop them back into place.
Having a lot of problems of my own, such as disc and low back problems, kind of pushed me in my work. I had torn ligaments in my rotator cuff. I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I experienced persistent joint pain as well as mental fog and inflammation. And I tried to resolve many of my own problems for years and years. I literally spent thousands of dollars.
And a lot of the errors I was making involved treating my own symptoms and spending money on it. Therefore, I played a big role in how my career began to develop. Learning the extremely important lesson of constantly asking why, as well as becoming patient first. You have to keep asking why until you find yourself in a tight spot because asking why is something you know is present.
Parul Soni: When did you start with the functional medicine? Where did you get a diploma?
Dr. Jeremiah Jimerson: I started doing some functional medicine on myself, and then I started doing some training through the Living Proof Institute probably about five or six years ago. It is a great addition to my career. I started working with patients and found some of the same issues.
I found that was that every single patient, the biggest thing is that they needed was to focus on the fundamentals of health.
Parul Soni: What do you talk about in your social media handles?
Dr. Jeremiah Jimerson: Symptomatic treatment does not work every time, you have to treat the root of the problem. So that's when I started developing more courses and content. I was focusing around stress, vagus nerve. I pay special attention to sleep and circadian rhythms and specifically diet. I started working with fundamentals of health and found that I started running fewer lab tests. I started prescribing less supplements. I started getting better and better results.
Parul Soni: Are you practicing functional medicine full time?
Dr. Jeremiah Jimerson: About three years ago I sold one of my chiropractic offices so that I could start carving more time into my own schedule and started some of that online courses.
I start posting some videos on TikTok and so I eventually made a commitment to myself that I was going to try to post every single day. And I did that until some of my videos started going viral. And before we knew it. I have 200,000 followers on TikTok. I start posting this on Facebook too and then within just a month, I got close to 300,000 followers on Facebook. My patients have definitely increased through the roof. That is a phenomenal success for me.
