A CASE REPORT OF DR. UDAY GUPTA
Department of Gynaecology
Did you book an appointment, whoops a ticket for Dr. G's movie. We have a case summary to give you a sneak peek of this movie.
ABSTRACT
It all starts with the dream to specialize in orthopedics but Dr. Uday aka Ayushman Khurana lands in gynaecology. Dr. Uday isn't too happy about it because,
"Jo cheez unke paas hai hi nahi, uska ilaaj wo kaise karen?"
this line is quirky, and hilarious with a touch of patriarchy. Dr. G is doing rounds, inspecting female patients in gynaecology wards with a baffled look on his face. A man isn't supposed to work in a 'stree rog' department, as per society. He even tries to persuade a female batchmate to switch her specialty to gynaecology.
Unaware of his deadpan humor, the doctor managed to make us all laugh to our heart's content, and groove to "DIL DHAKK DHAKK KARTA HAI!". In the medical college of Bhopal, Dr. Uday is finding his way out of this canal of bewilderment. Eventually sets on the path to treating women with respect and empathy.
Ayushman's quaint beliefs about women might make your veins pop. The comedy is thinly disguised misogyny with a compassionate end message. From being a reluctant gynaecologist, Dr. G eventually teaches some lessons. There should be no embarrassment in pursuing gynaecology. But then, log kya kahenge? In a Desi household, a man can't pursue gynaecology. Even Munnabhai MBBS would have felt daunted by the gynaecology. It's time to change the thinking of society.
During the Hippocratic Oath, doctors never pledge to segregate sexes while selecting specializations.
