Renowned Telugu actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been slammed for allegedly “misleading" her 33 million Instagram followers about “detoxing the liver". A doctor called Samantha out for featuring some random health illiterate on her health podcast series.

Recently, Samantha launched a health-oriented podcast on YouTube under the name "Take 20: Health Podcast Series". The second episode of the podcast, "Detox Pathways," was released on February 29, and the first episode, "Understanding Autoimmunity," was released on February 19.

On reacting to this, Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, a liver specialist (hepologist) who goes by the account name “TheLiverDoc” (@theliverdr) on X (previously known as Twitter), called out Samantha and Alkesh, who is a nutritionist and wellness coach, saying they were “misleading” and “misinforming” 33 million followers on “detoxing the liver”.

Dr. Cyriac on X shared a lengthy post on his official account, blaming the actress and her podcast guest for sharing their ignorance about health and medicine.

Samantha spoke with Alkesh on the show on health-related topics in both of the episodes. The medical world has responded severely to the discussion in the second episode, "Detox Pathways," involving how dandelion is the best plant for improving liver function.

Dr. Cyriac shared a video snippet of Samantha’s podcast from her YouTube channel wherein her guest was discussing the importance of herbs like dandelion in improving liver health. Dr. Cyriac wrote in a post that “This is Samantha Ruth Prabhu, a film star, misleading and misinforming over 33 million followers on detoxing the liver".

The doctor continued, “The podcast features some random health illiterate “Wellness Coach & Performance Nutritionist" who has absolutely no clue how the human body works and has the most rubbish content on his Instagram handle, including complete nonsense such as herbs to manage autoimmune disorders. I am not sure how people with massive followings very easily figure out the worst, science-illiterate people for them to invite to talk about science, medicine, and health on “health podcasts" that have in fact nothing to do with health or medicine. It’s just two science illiterates sharing their ignorance. The Wellness Coach guy is not even a real medical person and would probably have no idea about the functions of the liver".

Further, he added, “I am a liver doctor, a trained and registered hepatologist, diagnosing and treating liver disease patients since one day this is complete and utter BS (bullsh*t)."

Samantha has not reacted publicly to this matter. Last year, Samantha took a break from acting after being diagnosed with myositis, an autoimmune disease. She was last seen in the movie Kushi with Vijay Deverakonda. Recently, Samantha opened up about her decision to not work for a year.
