Dairy giant Amul has taken legal action against several social media users for spreading false information that its ghee is used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus, the sacred offering at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) temple.

The controversy began when rumors circulated online claiming that Amul's ghee was being used in the preparation of the laddus, sparking outrage among devotees. However, both Amul and TTD officials have consistently denied these allegations.

Clarification and Investigation:

TTD officials clarified that they use ghee sourced from local dairy farmers and not from Amul. Amul also issued a statement confirming that they do not supply ghee to TTD.

Despite the clarifications, the rumors persisted, prompting Amul to file an FIR against unidentified social media users for spreading misinformation.

"We have filed an FIR against X users for spreading false information about our ghee being used in Tirupati laddus," said an Amul spokesperson. "This misinformation has damaged our reputation and hurt the sentiments of devotees."

The incident highlights the risks of unchecked social media rumors and the need for responsible online behavior.

"Social media platforms have a responsibility to curb the spread of misinformation," said a cyber law expert. "Users must also verify information before sharing to prevent harm to individuals and organizations."
