After a doctor working in the intensive care unit was attacked on Friday, junior doctors at the government hospital affiliated with Siddhartha Medical College in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, went on a flash strike and refrained from providing outpatient care and conducting elective procedures.

At around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, a man called Ravi, 54, ingested poison, according to Machavaram Police. His family moved him right away to Nandigama's Government Hospital. At around 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Ravi was referred to Siddhartha Government Hospital due to his deteriorating health.

Ravi was treated and transferred to the intensive care unit after the evaluation. He passed away from a heart attack at around 4 p.m.

After the death, Venkatesh, Ravi's son, is said to have attacked him, and other family members resorted to violence and began breaking hospital equipment.

As soon as they heard about the situation, a few junior physicians raced to the intensive care unit to save the attacked doctor.

Junior doctors sent notice to the superintendent of the hospital, the principal of Siddhartha Medical College, and the director of medical education before embarking on a flash strike following the attack.

This caused delays for elective surgery and the outpatient department.

Police have filed a report after receiving information from the medical superintendent. They are looking out for the accused.

According to hospital superintendent Dr. Venkatesh, talks have been held with the junior doctors, and it is anticipated that they will get back to work.

According to Dr. Ameerun, General Secretary of the AP Junior Doctors Association, the relevant authorities have been given 48 hours to take appropriate action against the accused in the case and safeguard hospital physicians.

He insisted that starting on Monday, they would boycott OPD and elective procedures throughout the state if they didn't receive a favorable reaction.

Junior physicians have requested the immediate release of their two-monthly stipend, which has been delayed and have also asked for the FRS attendance app to be suspended until all problems are fixed.
