The entire country is shocked by the gruesome death of 20-year-old Anjali Singh in Kanjhawala of Delhi.

Anjali and her friend Nidhi were returning home on a scooty on New Year's Eve. Anjali was riding the scooty when a Maruti Baleno car rammed into the two-wheeler. Unfortunately, Anjali got stuck beneath the car. The car dragged her for several kilometers leading to her gruesome death.

The entire night was a series of unfortunate events. Anjali, her friend Nidhi, the boys driving the car, the Baleno car, and the scooty, were the components involved in the incident.

However, one aspect of the incident remains neglected, ALCOHOL. The root cause of the incident was alcohol and had alcohol not been involved, she would have been safe.

The role of Alcohol in this incident

Despite Nidhi claiming they were inebriated, the autopsy report showed that there was no alcohol in Anjali. However, the boys driving the car were under the influence of alcohol.

It was because of alcohol that the group of boys crashed into Anjali in the first place. Due to the heavy influence of alcohol, they didn't get to know that Anjali was stuck in the vehicle.

The accused boys namely Amit (25), Krishnan (27), Mitthu (26), and Manoj Mitthal (27), belonged to the young age group of 25-27. Unfortunately, the exuberance of youth and alcohol can be a deadly combination for both the drivers and the people on the road.

The accused might also be responsible citizens before this incident. However, alcohol takes away the decision-making ability between right and wrong.

Delhi has, unfortunately, been a place known for drunk driving. Delhi Police identified 125 spots of drunk driving on New Year's Eve. They also issued 36 challans due to drunk driving on December 31.

Many studies have proven alcohol leads to disruption in brain functions. The health issues caused by alcohol ranging from acidity to liver issues are known to us pretty well. Driving under influence (DUI) or drunk driving is a criminal offense under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. It can come with imprisonment of up to six months and a fine.
