A few days after a physician at the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital was suspended due to a surgical error, another mishap has infuriated patients.

According to sources, the young Kothipolam man who was hurt in a car accident had a rod purchased for a different patient placed on his hand by an orthopedic specialist at the hospital.

A week ago, Ajith, 24, was brought to the hospital following a car accident that shattered his hand. The young patient complained of severe hand pain following the procedure, which led to the discovery of the surgical error. The doctor had implanted the incorrect rod in the patient's hand, as confirmed by an X-ray taken following the procedure.

The doctor allegedly shouted at the youth's family after they turned down another procedure that day. “The doctor yelled at us and said, 'Do if you want,' when we told him we weren't ready for another surgery. We have spent 3,000 rupees on supplies other than the rod for the procedure." However, the youth's mother stated that not a single item was used.

She has reported medical negligence against the doctor and the hospital to the Medical College Police.
