In Chandigarh, an unknown woman entered the gynecology department of PGIMER (Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) and injected the patient Harmeet Kaur with unknown medication, who was already in a critical condition. The police registered this case as an attempt to homicide after knowing of the incident, and the case is currently under investigation.

Harmeet Kaur, a 24-year-old woman, was admitted to PGI Chandigarh from Banur in Patiala as she was under treatment for multiple organ dysfunction due to severe infection and bleeding after her delivery on November 3. On November 15, at around 11:30 p.m., an unknown woman entered her ward and injected her unknown medication.

Harmeet became suspicious of this and questioned the woman. The woman who injected her medicine told her that she was told by the doctor to administer the medicine. When Harmeet asked the woman about her identity, she became anxious and left the ward immediately.

After this incident, Harmeet’s husband, Gurwinder Singh, suspected that it might be the doing of his wife’s family because they married against the will of Harmeet’s family, which was against intercaste marriage. So he and Harmeet’s sister-in-law, Jatinder Kaur, informed the police about the incident.

The police filed this case as an attempt to homicide under Section 308 of the IPC at Sector 11. On investigation, it was found that the CCTV in the hospital was not working, and this made the investigation more difficult. The patient’s family background and her medical records are being studied to find the suspect. The police also asked the PGI to provide details on the unknown medication injected into the patient. Jatinder had taken a picture of that woman, but it was not very clear and was not helpful to the police. 

Harmeet’s condition is currently critical, and she is in the ICU ward due to a kidney injury. She is receiving dialysis and is on a ventilator. The Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Dr. Vanita Jain, also searches for the woman who injected the patient.

PGIMER said that this incident is currently under investigation by the police, and the patient was referred to their hospital three days after delivery because she developed a kidney injury, absent urine output, and multi-organ dysfunction. Her condition was controlled and monitored by their doctors.
