A 24-year-old nurse in Chennai attempted a secret self-delivery of her own by episiotomy procedure and ended up cutting off the infant's legs.

This attempt went wrong. According to sources, after chopping off the infant's legs, she flushed one of the legs down the toilet.

She executed this attempt in her hostel's washroom without telling her colleagues or hostel mates.

The nurse, Vinisha belonged to Kanyakumari. She was working at a private hospital in T Nagar and was staying at the staff quarters on South Boag Road in Chennai.

An FIR is filed against this nurse under IPC sections 315 (intent to prevent a child from being born or cause it to die after birth) and 201 (destroying the evidence or giving wrong information).

Her colleagues entered the room on hearing cries and found the debilitated infant wrapped in cloth. They rushed the nurse and the baby to the hospital immediately, but the baby had already died.

A day before trying to deliver the child on her own, she had complained of dizziness and back pain to her colleagues. They gave her medicines, but none of them suspected that she was pregnant.

On investigation, it was revealed that she was seven months pregnant. The nurse claimed that the infant was stillborn. However, an injury is found on the infant's neck suspected to be caused by a sharp object.

We could not retrieve the leg that was flushed. The child's body was kept at a government hospital for postmortem investigation. We will add a murder charge after receiving the doctor's reports.

According to sources, a few months ago, the nurse ended a relationship with a software professional. She tried to abort the pregnancy but the attempt went horribly unsuccessful.
