In an episode straight out of the iconic show 'Breaking Bad', a chemistry student found himself in the role of real-life Walter White, hired to manufacture meth by a drug syndicate in Chennai.
Chennai Police busted operations of a gang planning to cook drugs in the city and arrested seven. The group had set up a secret laboratory to produce the highly addictive drug.
Breaking Bad is an American crime drama TV serial set and filmed in New Mexico. The story is about Walter White, an underprivileged high school chemistry teacher. He was struggling with the recent diagnosis of 3rd stage lung cancer. White turns to a life of crime and partners with the former student, Jessie Pinkman. He agrees to produce and distribute methamphetamine to secure his family's financial future before he dies while navigating the dangers of the criminal underworld.
The young graduate started peddling drugs by selling small quantities of methamphetamine from Arun Kumar, a history sheeter. He had a history of a registered assault case against him. Later, the idea of manufacturing the drug struck and they roped in the chemistry student. The chemistry graduate was a student at a reputed college and a gold medalist.
One of the boys arrested procured money from his parents on the pretext of opening a cafe. The poor parents- had borrowed money to help him, thinking he was an aspiring businessman.Chennai Police
Anti-Drug Intelligence Unit raided the place on a tip-off. The police recovered 245 grams of methamphetamine, two laptops, and seven mobile phones from the laboratory in a raid. The engineering graduates and chemistry students are under arrest. Police are now searching for Arun Kumar and Karthik are believed to be the kingpins of the drug trade.
The seven arrested are Fleming Francis, Naveen, Praveen Pranav, Kishore, Gnanapandian, Arun Kumar, and Dhanush. Praveen, Dhanush, Kishore, and Naveen had completed their robotics engineering courses. while Gnanapandian held a master’s degree in chemistry.
Meanwhile, as a part of a campaign against narcotics, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin warned young people to stay away from drugs.
