After taking part in a drinking competition, a Chinese man tragically died after consuming one liter of alcohol in ten minutes in an effort to win a 20,000 yuan (Rs 2.31 lakh) reward. The event occurred in July when the guy, known as Zhang, went to a team-building dinner at his workplace when his employer, who has been identified as Yang, set up a drinking contest.

A colleague told the local media that "a coworker said to the local media that when Zhang finished drinking at the boss's table and left, he made an open offer of 5,000 yuan (Rs 57,895) to anyone who could consume more alcohol than Zhang. He raised the payment to 10,000 yuan (Rs. 1.15 lakh) after receiving no response. Zhang next asked what the odds were that he would win the competition. Zhang would receive 20,000 yuan, according to Yang, if he prevailed. However, if he failed, he would be required to spend 10,000 yuan to treat the entire workplace to afternoon tea."

Yang then decided to pit Zhang against a number of his staff, including his driver. Zhang reportedly consumed about a liter of powerful Chinese baijiu, according to one of the game's participants.

His health suffered greatly from the heavy drinking, and he dropped out. Zhang was treated for acute alcohol poisoning, aspiration pneumonia, asphyxia, and cardiac arrest at Shenzhen Junlong Hospital after being taken there. He passed away on August 3, despite the efforts of medical specialists. After his passing, a spokesperson posted that the business would be shutting down in its WeChat group.
