Delhi court summons AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) doctor Deepak Gupta, who is accused of raping another doctor on the pretext of marriage.

Metropolitan Magistrate Vijayshree Rathore, while scrutinizing the evidence, considered it prima facie sufficient to proceed with the case.

The Hauz Khas police station registered a case against Dr. Deepak Gupta, a professor of neurosurgery at AIIMS, under varied sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code), which include section 376 (rape), section 377 (unnatural offences), section 313 (causing miscarriage without woman consent), and section 506 (criminal intimidation).

According to the FIR complaint, the complainant, who is also a doctor, accused Dr. Deepak that he raped her on multiple occasions under the deceitful promise of marriage. He has promised her to marry since the day he met her in August 2021. She also said that after performing a sham marriage he allegedly forced her to undergo an abortion.

The magistrate said "I have gone through the challan under section 173 of the code of criminal procedure and annexed statements and documents, and the material on record is prima facie sufficient to proceed with the case. Accordingly, I take cognizance of sections 376, 377, 313, and 506 of the Indian penal code against the accused, added in an order dated January 23."

The court directed that the accused AIIMS doctor be summoned on February 26 through the Station House Officer (SHO).

The court did not summon the accused two sisters and brother, noting that the marriage between the accused and the complainant was not solemnized. The court observed that there were no specific allegations against them, and there seemed to be no role of the trio in the commissioning of the alleged offences.

The complainant in the FIR alleged that she and her family had threatened frequently, she also expressed that she was concerned about her safety and her family.
