A video showing a doctor engaging in sexual activities with a nurse at Government Royapettah Hospital in Chennai has prompted an investigation by the authorities. The video, which has gone viral, has triggered outrage and concern among the public and the medical community.

The man in the video has been identified as Dr. Subbiah Shanmugam. The nurse involved works in the operation theater at the hospital. The video, shared with India Today via a pendrive, was accompanied by a letter confirming the identity of Dr. Shanmugam.

Upon being questioned about the incident, hospital authorities stated that no official complaint had been lodged against the doctor. Despite the lack of a formal complaint, the hospital initiated an investigation as the video began circulating on June 14.

Dr. Aysha, Medical Superintendent at Royapettah Hospital, confirmed the investigation, saying, "We have not received any complaints against the doctor. However, as the video began to circulate, an investigation was initiated."

Following the release of the most recent video, the hospital is being closely monitored. (Representational image: Unsplash)

This is not the first time Dr. Shanmugam has faced controversy. In 2020, he was involved in another incident where a video of him urinating on the gates of his neighbor's house over a vehicle parking issue went viral. This earlier incident had also raised questions about his conduct.

Following the release of the most recent video, the hospital is being closely monitored. Many people are wondering how such behavior could take place at a hospital. Strong public outrage over the matter has resulted in demands for more stringent protocols that ensure the professionalism and moral character of medical personnel.

It is expected that the hospital will act appropriately in the context of the investigation's findings as it progresses. The incident has brought attention to the necessity of strict oversight and disciplinary actions in medical facilities in order to preserve standards and build confidence.
