In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Aurangabad, a doctor at a private clinic is under scrutiny for treating two men with gunshot wounds without alerting the police. The two men were reportedly involved in a sandalwood theft attempt near Law College Road, where they were injured by gunfire. Police say the doctor is likely to face legal charges for failing to report the injured men, who are suspects in the case. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed, “We will book the doctor in the same dacoity case for treating the two injured men for bullet wounds, but not informing the police.”

The incident took place around 2:30 a.m. on October 22 when two constables were patrolling near Law College Road and noticed two men on a motorcycle engaged in conversation. When the officers asked them to leave, the men turned back and shouted at them. Soon after, four more men appeared from behind a fence by an old bungalow and charged at the officers. In the ensuing struggle, one of the constables was attacked with a hacksaw, sustaining injuries. Acting in self-defense, constable Tambe fired several rounds, hitting two suspects in their right legs.

Police suspect that the six men, spread across two motorcycles, were attempting to steal a sandalwood tree from a nearby bungalow. Following the confrontation, one suspect was arrested in Abhai village in Sillod tehsil, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and during interrogation, he revealed that two brothers involved in the dacoity sustained gunshot wounds. The suspect disclosed that the injured men sought medical treatment at a private clinic, but the attending doctor did not report the incident to authorities, as required by law. This lapse has led to police considering the doctor’s involvement in the case.

A police officer noted that, under standard protocol, the doctor was obliged to inform the local police while treating the gunshot wounds, adding that “neglecting this duty may make him an accused in the case.” As per a report, the investigation is still ongoing, and the police are looking for five more suspects from Janjal village in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Authorities are deliberating on the doctor’s potential inclusion as an accused, although the decision has yet to be finalized.
