Doctors at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow successfully saved a 37-year-old man named Ramkishore after he sustained severe chest injuries from falling onto an iron rod. The incident took place in Unnao, and he was referred to KGMU four hours after the injury occurred.

Upon arrival at KGMU, Ramkishore presented with a metallic rod impaled in his left axilla and shoulder region. This injury resulted from a fall from a significant height, causing the rod to lodge deeply into his body. The case was urgent due to the proximity of the rod to vital organs, including the heart.

The rod was carefully extracted, and the wound was repaired using a suction drain to prevent infection and ensure proper healing.(Representational image: Pixabay)

The trauma surgery team, led by Prof. Samir Misra, along with Dr. Narendra Kumar, Dr. Akanksha, Dr. Anjana, Dr. Aman, and Dr. Vishal, worked meticulously to remove the foreign body. The anesthesia team provided crucial support during the procedure. The rod was carefully extracted, and the wound was repaired using a suction drain to prevent infection and ensure proper healing.

After the procedure, Ramkishore's condition stabilized, and soon after that, arrangements were made for his release. His rehabilitation was made possible by the quick thinking and effective handling by the KGMU medical staff, which demonstrated their proficiency in treating situations with complex trauma.
