Doctors in Maharashtra to Get Unique QR Codes from Next Month to Combat Fake Doctors

Patients can then scan the QR code to verify the doctor's qualifications and valid registration, either in-person or remotely

In Maharashtra, to tackle the issue of fake medical practitioners , the State's Medical Council will introduce QR codes for all registered medical practitioners (RMPs) starting next month. This move aims to ensure the legitimacy of doctors and prevent bogus practitioners from operating.

With approximately 1.94 lakh RMPs registered with the council, each practitioner will receive a unique QR code to display at their clinics and hospitals. Patients can then scan the QR code to verify the doctor's qualifications and valid registration, either in-person or remotely through a mobile app by simply entering the doctor's name.

Key Features of the QR Code Initiative:

  • Unique QR codes for each RMP to display at clinics and hospitals

  • Verification through scanning for patients to confirm doctor's qualifications and registration

  • Mobile app for remote verification by entering the doctor's name

  • Mandatory display suggested for all RMPs to curb fake practitioners

For the new QR code initiative, it is suggested that it should be made compulsory for all RMPs to put up the QR codes. However, MMC taking is several steps to curb the bogus doctors’ practice in the state. There is a need for the other council of alternative medicines to take proactive steps

The council is also taking additional measures to combat fake doctors, including collaborating with credible associations like the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to effectively enforce rules and take action against quacks.
This will help prevent and curtail the practice of bogus doctors in the state. Also, through a mobile-based app the citizens can remotely check the qualification of the doctors they want to consult, just by entering the names

This initiative is a response to concerns over unqualified practitioners and will help confirm the authenticity of doctors. The Maharashtra Medical Council has previously issued over 40,000 registration certificates with individual QR codes to prevent forgery. The MMC's effort is a crucial step in preventing unqualified practitioners from operating in the state. By providing a simple and effective way to verify a doctor's qualifications, patients can rest assured that they're receiving care from a licensed medical professional.
