Dr. Gottipati Lakshmi, a gynecologist and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate for the Darsi Assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh, prioritized her medical duty over her election campaign. On Thursday, amidst her campaign at Kurichedu village, Dr. Lakshmi received an urgent call from a local hospital, located about 20 kilometers away, regarding a critical medical situation.

A pregnant woman, Venkata Ramana from Abbayipalem village, was in terrifying need of an emergency Caesarean section (C-section) due to complications with her pregnancy. The hospital administration immediately requested Dr. Lakshmi's assistance in order to save the mother and child's lives because the on-staff physician was not available.

Despite being in the midst of a rigorous campaign schedule, Dr. Lakshmi immediately suspended her election activities and rushed to the hospital. Upon arrival, she assessed the situation and proceeded to perform the life-saving C-section. The patient's condition was unstable, with dangerously low levels of amniotic fluid posing a severe risk to both the mother and the unborn baby.

Dr. Lakshmi's expertise and timely intervention ensured the successful delivery of a healthy baby boy, preventing a potential tragedy. Speaking about the emergency procedure, Dr. Lakshmi emphasized the critical nature of the situation, highlighting the risk of intrauterine death if immediate medical attention had not been provided.

Despite the demanding nature of the election campaign, she firmly believes that her foremost duty as a medical professional is to protect the health and well-being of her patients. Her actions underscore the importance of placing human life above all else, demonstrating a constant commitment to her medical profession and the community she serves.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) commended Dr. Lakshmi's selfless act, with party chief Chandrababu Naidu praising her for her dedication and service to humanity. Dr. Lakshmi expressed her profound joy at being able to bring new life into the world, emphasizing the motivation she derives from the smiles of babies.

Looking ahead, Dr. Lakshmi reiterated her commitment to serving the people of her constituency, expressing her plans to establish a hospital in Darsi if elected. As she continues her electoral campaign, Dr. Lakshmi's actions serve as a shining example of compassion, professionalism, and community service.

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, scheduled for May 13, 2024, will see Dr. Gottipati Lakshmi competing for the votes of the public in the Darsi constituency. Her decision to prioritize medical duty over politics acquired widespread admiration, underscoring the fundamental idea that, in all cases, protecting lives comes first.
