On Sunday, the dismembered body of a 70-year-old woman was found in a drum in Bengaluru’s KR Puram area. The drum was then dumped on a vacant plot near an abandoned house.
The police identified the deceased as Sushilamma, a BJP worker who rented a flat in KR Puram’s neighboring area of Nisarga Layout. The deceased’s younger daughter and granddaughter live in another department of the same complex. Police found the body only after receiving complaints from the locals about a strong and extremely offensive odor from that spot.
Raman Gupta, Additional Commissioner (Bengaluru East), said that there is a possibility that the incident might have taken place on Saturday. Further, he added that other senior officers are examining the crime scene.
Police sources said that a few suspects were picked up for questioning.
Police picked up Dinesh, a resident of Nisarga Layout and also one of the suspects for interrogation. He was well familiar with the deceased.
Raman Gupta stated that police have lodged a case in connection with the murder and are waiting for the postmortem report to know the exact date of the murder. The motive behind the murder is yet to be discovered.
The deceased, Sushilamma, has two daughters and a son. One of her daughters is working for a private company, and her granddaughter is studying in college.
Sushilamma used to go out to visit temples for one or more days; therefore, her daughter also assumed that she might have gone out.
All the necessary investigations will be undertaken by the authorities. Police have already launched a manhunt to nab the accused behind this odious crime.
