From a 2019 MBBS seat scam, four individuals have been accused of deceiving a homeopath in Mehsana, Gujarat. The homeopath paid Rs 16.32 lakh for an MBBS admission in Uttar Pradesh but received a fake degree instead.

A complaint was filed by Patel (41), who has a Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) degree. On June 14, the Nandasan Police registered a case under sections 406 (breach of trust) and 420 (cheating), as per Inspector J G Vaghela.

The complainant, Suresh Patel (41), holds a Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery degree and works at a private hospital in Nandasan, village. In 2018, Mr. Patel came across a website offering an MBBS degree through a forum called "All India Alternative Medical Council." Mr. Patel contacted Dr. Prem Kumar Rajput through the website to learn more about the course structure and fees. After several phone conversations with Dr. Rajput, he agreed to pay the fees.

Patel eventually agreed to enroll and allegedly paid 16 lakh in several installments for admission between July 2018 and March 2019. They assured Mr. Patel that the course would start soon; however, Dr. Rajput and others could not be reached, and their phones were switched off shortly after, as stated in the FIR.

The homeopath allegedly received a courier in March 2019 with an MBBS mark sheet, degree certificate, internship training certificate, and registration certificate after paying Rs 16 lakhs, without taking any exam or attending classes. The certificates had registration numbers issued by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Gujarat Medical Council. Later, both the MCI and the university administration confirmed that the documents were fake.

In 2019, Mr. Patel contacted the police regarding receiving a fake MBBS Certificate, but the complaint was registered on June 14, 2024, under sections 406 (breach of trust) and 420 (cheating), in Nandana Police Station. During the first investigation, the police found four individuals connected to the scam; Dr. Premkumar Rajput, Dr. Shaukat Khan of Moradabad, and South Delhi residents Arun Kumar and Anand Kumar.

I work for a hospital in Mehsana and always wanted to pursue an MBBS degree. I contacted Prem Kumar Rajput, who assured me that I would get an MBBS degree based on my class 12 marks. I was skeptical as NEET had been introduced by then it was not possible to get admission-based class 12 grades alone. But Rajput assured me that everything would be legal.

Rajput had spoken to him over 20 times on call and assured Patel that he was a doctor and 3 others would help him complete the MBBS course.

Mr. Patel did not get any calls or updates regarding the commencement of classes after completing his fee installments of the course.

The certificate had registration numbers issued by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and he immediately approached MCI, learned that the certificates were fake.

Mr. Patel informed Mehsana Police Station, and later case was handed over to the Ahmedabad Crime Branch in 2019. However, no shreds of evidence regarding the organization was found. Finally, they went to a private bank at Nehru Place in Delhi, where the payment transaction were made, and collected evidence of a huge racket.

The Police was unable to trace any evidence further. Patel never gave up and succeeded in collecting evidence again in December 2023 and he filed a complaint in Mehsana SP's office. Finally, the application was transferred to Nandasana Police which registered a FIR.

Further, Dr. Munish Raizada, MD, FAAP added his thoughts on the scam at MedBound.
