In a shocking incident that unfolded in Ilkal, Karnataka, a 37-year-old woman, Basavarajeswari Yarnal, lost her palms and fingers in a hair dryer explosion. On November 15, a device intended for her neighbor caused a tragic accident when it exploded as she connected it to a power source at her residence. She is receiving medical care at a hospital in the area.
The hair dryer was delivered to Basavarajeswari on behalf of her neighbor, Shashikala, who was out of town. When Shashikala asked Basavarajeswari to open the parcel, the latter discovered a hair dryer. Unfortunately, the device exploded the moment it was connected to a power socket.
Shashikala, the supposed recipient, denied ordering the product, fueling suspicions. Investigators speculate she may be withholding information due to fear after the tragic outcome.
According to police sources, the explosion occurred due to an electrical short circuit. Investigators noted that devices like hair dryers require a stable 2-watt electrical connection, which was not present in this case.
Basavarajeswari, the wife of late ex-army man Papanna Yarnal, has endured tragedy before. Her husband tragically passed away in 2017 due to an electrical short circuit while serving in Jammu & Kashmir.
Authorities have traced the manufacturer of the hair dryer to a company located in Visakhapatnam. A police team is set to visit the accident site and investigate the supply chain to determine the parcel’s origin and authenticity.
Neighbors who rushed to help Basavarajeswari described the scene as devastating. Local authorities have pledged to ensure the victim receives appropriate medical care and justice.
