In a groundbreaking achievement for healthcare in Daltonganj, a team of specialists at Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH), Pokhraha Khurd, Jharkhand, successfully performed the institution's first total hip replacement (THR) surgery. Led by civil surgeon Dr. Anil Kumar, the procedure represents a significant milestone for the hospital since its upgrade from a district hospital in 2019.

The surgery was conducted on Thursday by a team consisting of three orthopedic surgeons, two anesthetists, and six operating theatre assistants. Dr. Kumar, the head of the team, shared that the patient, Chanarmani Devi, a 55-year-old resident of Pathak Pagar village under Pipra Tarn Police Station, had been in considerable pain for a long time but was unable to afford the treatment due to financial constraints. In response, the hospital arranged for an Ayushman Bharat card for her within two weeks, which helped cover the costs of her treatment.

The total hip replacement surgery lasted about an hour and was performed at an overall cost of Rs 95,000, with the implants sourced from Ranchi. The procedure was carried out through a collaborative effort involving orthopaedic and plastic surgeon Dr. Pravin Siddharth, along with his team of trained operating theatre assistants.

Dr. Kumar expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the hospital's first THR surgery, noting that the patient, Chanarmani Devi, was recovering well and had no issues with her hemoglobin levels. The medical team is closely monitoring her progress, and she is currently responding positively to the treatment.

The surgery not only highlights the medical capabilities of MMCH but also showcases the hospital's commitment to providing advanced healthcare services to those in need, even in remote regions like Daltonganj. The use of the Ayushman Bharat card underscores the importance of public health initiatives in making quality healthcare accessible to all, regardless of financial status.

This successful surgery marks an important step forward for Medinirai Medical College Hospital in its mission to expand healthcare access and provide specialized medical services to the local population. It serves as a beacon of hope for many patients in similar conditions who may have struggled to find affordable healthcare solutions in the past.
