In a tragic incident, a senior female doctor allegedly committed suicide on Sunday morning by hanging herself from the ceiling at her residence in Behala’s Diamond Park after a fight with her husband.
The deceased, identified as a 57-year-old voluntarily retired female doctor who used to work at Joka ESI Hospital, suddenly ended her life, which staggered her neighbors who knew her as a dignified and confident woman.
The police discovered that the couple got into a fight a day before she took the extreme step during the investigation of her case. Also, the police have verified that the couple was involved in arguments over multiple issues, but the exact reason for her death is still not clear.
The husband in this case was called for interrogation at the police station until Sunday evening.
The deceased's husband practices at a private hospital and has a chamber at the James Long Sarani-MG Road crossing. Now, the police are investigating this case. A senior police officer said that they learned there was discord between the two last evening over multiple issues. They are probing into the case to find out what exactly happened that led to her death.
The incident was revealed when the husband informed the police upon discovering the doctor's hanging body in her room. Her body was sent to M. R. Bangur Hospital for a postmortem. As per the deceased's neighbor, the doctor's main focus is engaging in social service within the local community. She played an active role in the organization of the Durga Puja festival in the neighborhood and was highly famous within the area.
A case was filed, and an investigation is in progress.
