A complaint has been filed at the Chemmanchery police station in Chennai against popular YouTuber Irfan and a doctor from a private hospital following a viral video showing Irfan cutting the umbilical cord of his newborn inside an operation theatre. The complaint was confirmed by Tamil Nadu’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, Ma. Subramanian, who addressed the media on October 22, 2024, at the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.

According to Mr. Subramanian, the National Medical Commission (NMC) strictly prohibits non-medical personnel from participating in activities inside an operation theatre. He emphasized that the involvement of a non-medical individual in such a procedure constitutes a serious violation of medical protocols. As a result, Irfan has been issued a notice demanding an explanation, and legal action is expected to follow. The Minister also mentioned that Irfan had previously committed other offenses, further compounding the seriousness of the current issue.

In addition to the action taken against Irfan, Mr. Subramanian revealed that a complaint had been lodged against the private hospital and the female doctor who permitted and assisted Irfan in cutting the umbilical cord. The doctor is under investigation, and a recommendation has been submitted to the Tamil Nadu Medical Council to revoke her license to practice medicine.

This is not the first controversy involving Irfan. In a previous incident, he released a video revealing the gender of his unborn child. The test was conducted in Dubai, where such gender determination practices are legal. However, since disclosing the gender of a fetus is illegal in India, he was issued a notice for violating local regulations. Irfan later apologized for the video, and the authorities excused him after the apology.

The current video, featuring the birth of Irfan’s newborn and uploaded to his popular YouTube channel, has amassed over 1.4 million views in just two days. However, the rapid circulation of the video on social media prompted swift responses from government authorities. On October 21, 2024, J. Rajamoorthy, Director of Medical and Rural Health Services, confirmed that show cause notices had been sent both to Irfan and the hospital in Sholinganallur where the delivery occurred.
