Several male staff nurses protested in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu Emergency Unit, asking for an immediate and unbiased investigation into a recent conflict between one of their colleagues and a postgraduate (PG) doctor. The incident happened a few days ago, and the nurses demanded that the PG doctor be held accountable for the abuse of the nursing staff member.
The protest lasted for about half an hour, during which the male staff nurses suspended all work in the emergency unit. Their primary demand was a speedy and fair probe into the incident and appropriate action against the PG doctor. The situation created a significant disruption in the emergency unit until the hospital administration intervened.
In order to resolve the conflict between the PG doctors and the nursing staff, the hospital administration intervened immediately. Following the intervention, the nursing staff agreed to end their conflict. A spokesperson for GMCH Jammu confirmed that the administration is taking the incident seriously and has formed a committee to investigate the matter. The committee is headed by the Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, who has been instructed to submit a report as soon as possible.
The spokesperson emphasized that the hospital administration has addressed both the nursing staff and the resident doctors, assuring them that an impartial inquiry will be conducted. The administration has promised appropriate action against anyone found guilty. The authorities have also committed to providing a safe working environment for all staff members, underscoring the importance of mutual trust and harmony within the medical and nursing fraternity.
