In a shocking incident in Vasai, a young woman was brutally killed with a spanner by her ex-boyfriend on a busy road in Chinchpada on Tuesday morning. The horrifying act was captured on CCTV, showing the 29-year-old attacker, Rohit Yadav, repeatedly striking Aarti Yadav, 22, on her head and chest.
The attack took place around 8:30 a.m. as Aarti was heading to work. The video footage reveals Rohit running up behind her and hitting her on the head, knocking her to the ground. Despite attempts to get up, she was repeatedly struck by Rohit, who shouted, "Kyun kiya aisa mere saath?" (Why did you do this to me?).
A bystander tried to intervene but was threatened by Rohit, causing him to back off. A considerable crowd gathered, but no one dared to confront or stop Rohit, who continued his assault. Shockingly, many people recorded the incident on their phones while others moved away from the scene.
Rohit and Aarti had been in a relationship for over two years but had recently broken up. Rohit suspected Aarti of having an affair, which led to frequent arguments. On the day of the attack, he accosted her on her way to work, demanding an explanation for her behavior.
After the attack, Rohit was seen standing over Aarti's body, holding the spanner, and yelling at her before discarding the weapon and sitting beside her body. The police from Waliv Police Station arrived at the scene and arrested Rohit. Aarti’s body was taken to a nearby hospital.
The incident, which took place in full public view, has raised concerns about the safety of women and the public's unwillingness to intervene in violent acts. The police are now investigating the role of the crowd and why no one stepped in to stop the assault. Rohit is expected to face murder charges.
Aarti’s family had previously lodged a complaint against Rohit at the Achola Police Station, Nalasopara, after he had broken her phone and hit her.
