MBBS Student Dies By Suicide In College Hostel

A 23-year-old final-year MBBS student dies by suicide in her hostel room at Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan on Monday, February 5.

The deputy commissioner of police Harsh Vardhan said that they were notified about the incident around 1:30 pm on Monday. A team reached the spot, recovered the body of the deceased, and sent it for autopsy. The DCP also said that the forensic teams had inspected the spot, but no suicide note was found. The friends and family of the deceased are being questioned to affirm the reason behind her suicide.

The name of the student is not revealed to respect the privacy of her family. The deceased is a 23-year-old woman, studying her final year of MBBS at Maulana Azad Medical College. She is a resident of Delhi.

According to the officer, the student had gone to her home on Sunday and returned on the same day to the hostel. She had home-cooked food with her hostel mates and returned to her room late at night. On Monday morning, her hostel mates knocked on her room’s door repeatedly and there was no response from inside, they informed the warden after she did not respond. The door was locked from inside. The college authorities informed the police, they broke open the door and found the student's body hanging from the ceiling fan.

According to the source she had no enmity with anyone and the officer also said the student’s WhatsApp and call records are being checked to identify the reason for her death.

The student is currently working in the surgery department of Lok Nayak Hospital and staying in the hostel of Maulana Azad Medical College. Her friends were shocked by the incident. One of the friends of the student said that she had got home-cooked food for all her friends after she returned from her home. Everything seemed normal. What happened today is unimaginable. Another added that she always had a smile on her face. I can't imagine what she could have been going through, something that forced her to take such extreme steps.
