In a women's hostel in Ayanavaram, a 32-year-old doctor reportedly got electrocuted when she came into contact with an electric source while charging her laptop.

The victim has been named as 32-year-old Saranitha, a Namakkal district native who was enrolled in a post-graduate medical program in Coimbatore after completing her MBBS. She was residing in Coimbatore with her physician husband, Udayakumar. She arrived in the city on May 1st, in preparation for her one-month training program at the Institute of Mental Health campus here.

She was attending the training program and lodging at a women's hostel on K.H. Road in Ayanavaram. Her husband attempted to reach her on Sunday, May 26, 2024, but she did not answer his calls. Since it was Sunday, at first he assumed she was asleep in the morning. When she failed to reply at all, he became suspicious and called the hostel's manager. He dispatched a staff member to her room.

The female staff discovered that she was lying still with her room door open. The hotel manager requested aid from 108 Ambulance based on her husband's recommendation. After examining her, the 108 Ambulance crew who had responded to the scene said that she had already died from electrocution.

Inspector K. Paraninadhan of the Ayanavaram Police arrived on the scene after receiving information and started an investigation. The doctor's wife was on the floor, her laptop clasped in her hands. She may have been electrocuted to death when she unintentionally touched the defective power cord on the laptop, which is thought to have been damaged. According to the cops, her palm was also burned.

The Ayanavaram Police opened an investigation into an unnatural death case.
