The Junior Doctors Network (IMA-JDN) of the Indian Medical Association has submitted a new letter to Health Minister J P Nadda in response to the NEET PG 2024 Test City controversy, pleading with him to step in and investigate the situation. In order to change the test center assigned to applicants who were given far-off exam locations, IMA-JDN has requested support in the letter. The Junior Doctors Network stated that “Several candidates across the country have been allotted centers far away from their place of residence/native state and/or in cities, totally different from the four preferred choices filled by the aspirants during the process of allotment, as directed by the testing authorities.”
The situation has been further worse by the terrible landslides in Wayanad, which have taken many lives, the heavy rain in Gujarat, the water-logged districts, and the IMD red alert. “Climatic conditions may not favorable to the aspirants at various places and therefore availability of flights and other modes of transportation will be an added issue to those allotted such centers. Aspirants are incurring high costs for transportation and accommodation, with flight tickets already surging. The sudden changes have caused significant mental trauma and loss of confidence, impacting last-minute preparation of the students,” Junior Doctors Network added.
The original March 3 date for the NEET-PG exam has been rescheduled several times. The NEET PG test will now take place on August 11 in two shifts.
According to Section 61(2) of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 read with Chapter IV of the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023, NEET-PG is an eligibility-cum-ranking exam that is required as the only entrance exam for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma Courses.
The chief commissioner for persons with disabilities received a petition from the All India Student's Union (AISU) earlier in August. The petition claims that Sai Krishna, the petitioner, is the National Vice President of the All India Students Union, an organization that is registered under the Indian Trust Act of 1882 and is a branch of the Federation of Indian Students Association. The interests of students throughout India, including those with disabilities, are represented by the petitioner. Many candidates have demanded that the centers be moved to the first desired location specified on their application forms, citing as many as 1,000 km between some of the centers. The NEET PG test will be placed in two shifts on August 11, 2024, this year.
