According to a former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College, Dr. Sandip Ghosh engaged in a number of illicit operations, including as the sale of unclaimed bodies, before resigning as principal following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor.

Additionally, according to Ali, Ghosh was involved in the trafficking of medical supplies and biomedical waste into Bangladesh.

"Sandip Ghosh used to do business with unclaimed dead bodies. A case was also registered against him. He was also involved in trafficking biomedical waste. He used to sell it to the people who were part of his additional security. It was then sent to Bangladesh," the former deputy superintendent stated.

Serving as a member of the inquiry committee against Ghosh, Akhtar Ali claimed to have alerted the state vigilance commission about the illicit activities. He was employed at RG Kar Hospital until 2023. According to him, an inquiry found the former principal guilty, but no action was taken against him.

Although Ali was moved from RG Kar Hospital the same day, he claimed to have filed an inquiry report against Dr. Ghosh to the state health authorities.

"The day I submitted the inquiry report, I was transferred on the same day. The other two members of this committee were also transferred. I did whatever I could to save the students from this man, but I failed," he stated.

After resigning in the face of protests over the doctor's murder, Sandip Ghosh was offered a new job at Calcutta Medical College not long after. Nonetheless, Ghosh was placed on indefinite vacation by the Calcutta High Court, which overruled the government.

In addition, from January 2021, the Mamata Banerjee administration has mandated an inquiry into the institution's alleged financial irregularities.

Ali also said that Ghosh asked for payments in order to pass students. "Some students were deliberately made to fail. So that he could recover the money," he further stated.

The former RG Kar officer described Ghosh's working methods in detail, stating that he received a 20% fee on each tender. Additionally, he asserted that only two of Ghosh's close associates, Suman Hazra and Biplab Singha, received hospital-related tenders.

"Sandip Ghosh used to take money first and then give a work order. Suman Hazra and Biplab Singha had 12 companies. Only they were given tenders for every work," Ali stated.

Furthermore, Ali said that Sandip Ghosh had the support of other "powerful people," pointing out that in spite of his two transfers, he was reinstated as the hospital's director.

"Such a person should be taken into immediate custody. He is harmful to society," the former RG Kar official stated.
