A shocking incident took place on November 3, 2023, at the government hospital in Nagpur in the Mauda area. The doctor allegedly walked out of the operation theater midway, leaving four women behind, awaiting an operation.

On the same day, eight women had been scheduled for family planning surgery (tubectomy). After performing surgeries on four women, Dr. Tejrang Bhalavi, who is an accused, requested a cup of tea from the hospital staff. However, when his request went unfulfilled despite waiting for a long time, he abruptly left the operation theater. The four women had already been given anesthesia and were ready to undergo surgery. When Dr. Bhalavi unexpectedly left the operation theater, nurses and other staff were stunned. As the four anesthetized women waited for surgery, the district administration arranged for another doctor, who performed and completed surgery as a replacement for Dr. Bhalavi.

After the incident came to light, demands were raised by various quarters to take action against an accused doctor who forgot the ethics of his profession. The district administration has launched an investigation into the matter, and a three-member committee has been assembled to investigate the case.

Speaking about the incident, Nagpur Zilla Parishad's CEO, Soumya Sharma, said that the doctor did not get tea, so he left the operation theater. I have launched an immediate investigation, and a three-member committee has been formed for it. After the report comes, action will be taken against them. This is a very serious matter. If doctors are leaving such operations for the sake of tea, then action should be taken against such doctors under 304 of the IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

Doctors are credited with saving the lives of those who come to them with a humanitarian heart, not just for money. But recently, the situation has been changing. The medical system has become a business with no difference between government and private hospitals. This type of incident emphasizes the need for a detailed investigation with strict punishment. It also accentuates the importance of maintaining a high standard of professionalism and responsibility in the medical field to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
