Advanced Kidney Stone Removal Performed Successfully at NHAK

The Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) became the first government hospital in Kohima, Nagaland to have performed the successful Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) surgery. The team of doctors was led by Urologist Dr. Bernard Amer, while three other doctors played assistant roles.

Dr. Bernard explained to Nagaland Post that the surgery involved creating a small pathway through the skin into the kidney, allowing for the insertion of a camera to break and remove large kidney stones. He described the procedure as complex but effective. The 33-year-old woman was discharged two days after the surgery and is doing well. More importantly, the surgery was cashless under CMHIS.

The success of this surgery was made possible by the recently acquired advanced equipment at NHAK. Dr. Bernard acknowledged the contributions of medical superintendent Dr. Sendimeren Aonok and the anesthesia team led by Dr. Angto Phom. He also highlighted that NHAK offers urology services and encouraged citizens to take advantage of these facilities when needed.

This breakthrough is a significant step forward for government healthcare in Nagaland, promising better treatment options for patients with kidney stones. As per various sources, this development is expected to inspire further investments in medical technology and training, which will improve healthcare quality in the state.

However, this successful surgery does set a new benchmark for other government hospitals in the region. It speaks volumes that, thanks to a well-equipped, trained professional, a complex procedure could be undertaken to provide the best quality care to the patient.

The award also underlines the very fact that the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) has been largely responsible for providing access to advanced medical procedures to a larger number of people. It gave them cashless treatment, ensuring that not even a single individual missed their due treatment due to financial reasons.

As NHAK continues to grow and extend its present capability, it's very likely it will play a critical role in the future of healthcare in Nagaland. NHAK's commitment to new technologies and patient care is an example to follow by a regional institution in the worldwide compass. An improvement that will benefit the patients as well as increase morale and confidence in the medical professionals concerned to urge them on for further advances in their fields.
