The National Medical Commission (NMC) has extended the deadline for starting new postgraduate (PG) medical courses, setting up standalone PG institutes, and increasing the seats in existing PG programs for the academic year 2025-2026. Initially, the last date for submitting applications was October 17, 2024. However, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of NMC has now announced that applications will be accepted until November 8, 2024.

A previous notice issued by MARB on September 18, 2024, had invited medical institutions to apply for new PG courses and institutes or to expand the seats in existing courses through the official NMC portal. At that time, institutions were instructed to complete the application process online by October 17, 2024. In line with the notice, NMC had communicated to directors, principals, deans, and heads of medical colleges to adhere strictly to the submission deadline.

The latest announcement from NMC extends the deadline to ensure that more institutions have the opportunity to complete their applications. The MARB’s new notice, issued on October 16, 2024, refers to the earlier public notice and confirms that all other terms and conditions stated in the September notice remain unchanged. It also mentions that the extension was approved by the Competent Authority of the Commission.

Institutions applying for new PG courses or seats are required to upload specific documents through the online portal. According to NMC guidelines, the following documents must be submitted in PDF format:

1. Valid Essentiality Certificate (EC) – This must follow the prescribed proforma and be uploaded under the section labeled “Essentiality Certificate.”

2. Valid Consent of Affiliation (CoA) – Institutions must submit this document as per the required format.

3. Justification for Seats – A detailed justification must be provided for the number of seats requested in the application.

The NMC has also made it mandatory to complete the online payment process during the application. The required fee must be paid through the link generated while filling out the form, and only after payment confirmation will the application be considered valid. Colleges and institutions have been advised to carefully check that all required documents and information are correctly uploaded before submitting their applications to avoid delays or rejection.

The extension of the deadline provides additional time for institutions to comply with NMC’s requirements and ensure the successful submission of their applications. This move is expected to benefit medical institutions planning to expand their PG programs or establish new standalone PG institutes for the academic year 2025-2026.
