Smells affect us more than we might think. Imagine a chemical signal coming off of babies' heads that calms men and riles up women.

Difficult to imagine the antithesis? However, that's exactly what was found in a study in the journal, 'Science Advances.'

Hexadecanal or HEX is the chemical's name, and it is a smell coming off of a baby's head. Scientists believe it's a chemical defense system we inherited from our animal ancestors.

HEX makes women more likely to defend their babies and makes men less likely to harm them.
