Speaking Forum in April Psych Campaign

Round-I of the speaking competition of the April psych campaign on pre-selected topics on mental health was conducted on 22nd April through a Zoom discussion

The speaking forum session for the April Psych Campaign was conducted on 22nd April through a Zoom call. The participants could choose from a set of pre-decided topics based on mental health issues. The speakers could talk on their topic of interest for a maximum of 7 minutes.

Dr. Darshit Patel hosted the event and started with an introduction to the event. Dr. Darshit welcomed Miss Subha Maheswari, Program coordinator, Dr. Munmun Rai, Teaching assistant Medbound, Dr. Malhar Mone, an expert panelist from Jehangir Hospital, Pune, India, and all the participants present at the event. Dr. Darshit summarised the schedule for the psych forum events and also briefly explained the rules for the speaking forum as well as the criteria that will be used to assess the talks.

Dr. Satyam Singh was invited to give the first talk. Dr. Satyam introduced himself as a third-year medical student from GSVM Medical College, Kanpur, and gave a talk on the topic of Addiction.

Dr. Saba Shaikh, the second speaker, talked about Child Abuse.

Dr. Ravkiran Kaur, spoke next on the topic of Trauma.

Dr. Lalitha Lavanya Shree, a student at the University of Kiev, talked next on Addiction.

Dr. Akshata Sahebrao Survase, a medical student from Moscow, talked on Mental health

Dr. Karthika Suresh spoke next on the topic of Anxiety followed by Dr. Zainab Huzefa, a medical student at Tbilisi University, who gave a talk on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Dr. Manu Sharan Srivastav gave the next talk on Child Abuse.

Dr. Ruksana Ismail talked next, on the topic of Suicide Prevention.

All the speakers were thanked and appraised individually by the panelists after their respective talks and additional notes were added on the respective topics.

Afterward, Dr. Munish Raizada, Board certified neonatologist from Chicago, IL, USA, was welcomed to the event to give an expert opinion. Dr. Munish gave additional insight into the issue of child abuse and explained the working of child support services in the USA. He also observed that child neglect is as concerning as child abuse, but is not often given equal importance.

Dr. Malhar Mone and Dr. Munmun Rai gave a vote of thanks to all the participants of the event and summarised the important points that were discussed. Dr. Darshit Patel thanked the panelists and congratulated the speakers for their successful performances.

Dr. Darshit further announced that the scores and results of the first round will be declared on Medbound soon. The final round, which will also be based on mental health, will be held on the 29th of April with topics provided on-spot.
