Ayurveda is gaining popularity all around the country. The Government is backing Ayurvedic practitioners as well so they can contribute toward the healthcare system. However, some loopholes continue to remain unaddressed.

One of them happens to be the fake Ayurvedic clinics all around the country. One such clinic was raided in the Ameerpet area of Hyderabad on February 18.

Thulasi Ayurvedic Centre was raided based on a tip-off. It was reportedly operating without a valid license. The clinic also had unqualified staff who had no right to prescribe medicines.

The practitioner, Vjiay Swamy, was arrested on the spot after the police found out that he did not have the necessary qualifications required to clinically treat patients. The police also arrested two other staff members named Talvar Parshuram and Master Bheema who were working at the centre.

Ayurveda has always been associated with some fake quacks that tarnish the entire image of Ayurveda. As much as I support mainstreaming of AYUSH, I think there should be strict measures for quacks who prescribe any medicine without the required qualifications.

Investigation revealed that the clinic was run by Anand Bagalkot alias Gowtham. He was not present in the centre at the time of the raid. The police are on the lookout for him.
