In Lucknow's Gazipur area, while transporting her terminally ill husband, a neurology patient, to Siddharthnagar, UP an ambulance driver and his helper sexually assaulted a woman.

The suspects allegedly disconnected the husband's oxygen support and forcibly threw him out of the ambulance, ultimately causing his death.

The woman's husband had been admitted to a private hospital in Aravali Marg after he had been unwell for several days. Due to an inability to afford the hospital's fees, she hired an ambulance from the Gazipur (Indiranagar) Police Station to transport him home. She was accompanied by her brother during the journey.

The woman reported that she was forced to sit in the front with the driver and his aide, who soon began touching her inappropriately.

When she cried out, her husband, sensing something was wrong, started shouting along with her brother. Despite their protests, the driver and his accomplice continued to molest her, while she struggled to fend them off.

“They later stopped the ambulance on the main road of the Chhawani police station in Basti, forcibly removed the oxygen mask of my husband and threw him out. They locked my brother in the front cabin,” she stated

The duo also allegedly stole ₹10,000 from her purse, along with her anklets, mangalsutra, Aadhaar card, and hospital reports.

Somehow her brother eventually managed to call both the 112 police helpline and the 108 ambulance service for assistance.

“The police recorded our statement and said we should get the patient admitted and then come to the Chhawani police station to get the FIR lodged,” she stated

The woman said that the 108 ambulance service took her husband to Basti District Hospital for admission.

Due to his serious condition, the victim was referred to the Medical College in Gorakhpur. But by the time they arrived, he had already succumbed.

ADCP Jitendra Dubey stated that the woman has filed a complaint and a case has been registered. The police are still searching for the driver involved.

Sources reveal that the police's indifferent attitude was evident when the victim approached Chhavni Police Station in Basti on September 1. She was directed to go to Lucknow to register the case. However, after the incident gained media attention, senior officers began actively overseeing the investigation.

In response to the incident, opposition leaders including Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav and senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Pramod Tiwari criticized the Uttar Pradesh government.

Akhilesh Yadav questioned the existence of effective governance in the state given such incidents, while Pramod Tiwari expressed concerns about the overall law and order situation in UP.

I want to bring about the point that the UP government has failed in securing the women and the incident of Hathras, Ghaziabad, and Farrukhbad are just a few examples
