A postgraduate medical student at the Madras Medical College (MMC) carefully escaped a murder attempt on Sunday when two individuals from Uttar Pradesh, identified as Amit Kumar, 22, and Rithik, 24, targeted him with a country-made pistol outside the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai. The attackers, suspected to be motivated by jealousy, fired at the doctor, Rohan, 24, but they missed their target. Fortunately, Rohan was not harmed, and with the help of the public, one of the individuals involved, Rithik Kumar, was quickly arrested by the Flower Bazaar police. However, Amit Kumar managed to escape from the location.

A preliminary investigation by the police uncovered a concerning motive for the heinous act. Amit Kumar, the key suspect, seemed angry at his ex-girlfriend's close relationship with Rohan. Amit and his ex-girlfriend were postgraduate medical students at MMC. After seeing images of Rohan and his ex-girlfriend on social media, Amit suspected Rohan of being the cause of their separation, leading him to come up with a plan to kill Rohan.

The two individuals from Uttar Pradesh had been thoroughly planning the attack for weeks. They acquired a country-made pistol for Rs 5,000 and had been following Rohan for three days before executing their plan on Saturday night. However, their attempts were unsuccessful as Rohan was usually accompanied by friends, making it challenging to carry out their evil plan. They delayed their plan until Saturday night to take action, when Rohan was alone at a tea stall close to the hospital.

The ongoing inquiry has become more challenging due to Rithik Kumar's lack of cooperation while in police custody. (Representational image: Pixabay)

Upon realizing the approaching danger, Rohan attempted to run away from the place, but before he could escape, one of the attackers, Amit Kumar, fired a shot at him. Unexpectedly, Rohan managed to avoid the bullet, public quickly came in to help, they captured Rithik Kumar while Amit Kumar escaped to Chennai Central Station and got onto a train going to Vijayawada.

The police officials utilized CCTV footage to track Amit Kumar, who had gotten on the train. With the help of a special task force, the officials took the next train and arrested Amit with the help of a photograph shared by Rohan.

The ongoing inquiry has become more challenging due to Rithik Kumar's lack of cooperation while in police custody. Despite the delay authorities are still trying to find Amit Kumar and draw a conclusion to this terrifying event.

The event is an eye-opening illustration of the risks associated with uncontrolled jealousy and how far some people would go in order to get revenge. The medical community in Chennai is working hard to protect everyone inside the organization, and as the inquiry progresses, they are staying vigilant and connected.
