In an incident captured on CCTV, a nurse at Sapra Hospital in Hisar was seen punching a patient in the ICU. The video, which went viral on social media, has led to severe backlash and a police investigation. The patient's family alleges that the doctor, nursing staff, and a security guard were involved in assaulting and threatening the patient.
According to the patient's son, his father was held hostage, beaten, and threatened with death. Based on the family's complaint, the police have registered an FIR against the involved individuals. The hospital authorities have since suspended the implicated staff members.
The CCTV footage shows a male nurse approaching the patient, who is lying in bed. After checking his surroundings, the nurse punches the patient's left lower chest and then ties the patient's hands to the bed. The patient, suffering from liver-related ailments, was admitted to the ICU on June 18. The alleged assault occurred on the night of June 19. The patient's son, Darshan Singh, lodged a complaint with the police, accusing the doctor, nurse, and a security guard of holding his father hostage and beating him.
Hospital operator Dr. Tarun Sapra stated that the police are handling the matter, and the hospital has taken action by suspending the concerned staff. He emphasized that the incident was a personal matter involving those who assaulted the patient and that the hospital itself was not at fault.
The police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rioting, voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation. An investigation is ongoing.
This incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many criticizing the hospital staff's actions. The video, widely shared, shows the nurse hitting the patient with his elbow, further fueling the public's anger.
In response, the hospital administration has tried to distance itself from the incident, stressing that it was a personal matter for the staff involved. However, the seriousness of the matter led to a police report and a more extensive examination of the hospital's procedures.
