A doctor at a private hospital in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, where a woman was brought for kidney stone treatment, is reported to have removed her healthy kidney rather than the damaged one, leaving the woman critically ill. The surgeon, however, has refuted the accusation, claiming that he carried out the procedure appropriately.

The incident happened at the Dhankhar Hospital, which is run by the surgeon, Dr. Sanjay Dhankhar.

The 30-year-old woman, named Eid Bano from Nua village, made the decision to go to the hospital in order to have her kidney stones removed because she had been experiencing pain. After a few tests, Dr. Dhankhar told Bano that she needed to have her right kidney removed immediately because it was supposedly damaged by the kidney stones.

On May 15, the doctor's observation was approved by Bano's family, and operation was carried out. But rather than removing her diseased left kidney, Dr. Dhankhar is said to have removed her healthy right kidney.

Her illness worsened two days later, and upon her return to the hospital, Dr. Dhankhar recommended that she seek proper care in Jaipur. Additionally, he instructed Bano's family to keep her surgery a secret from everyone.

Upon her admission to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, the family became aware of Dr. Dhankhar's embarrassing incident. All the doctors in Jaipur could do was to send her home.

Upon discovering the medical negligence, Dr. Dhankhar paid a visit to the Bano family residence and made an offer to pay for Bano's care elsewhere. However, the family turned down his offer and called the police to report it.

Shabbir, Bano's spouse, stated that Dr. Dhankhar was the target of stern action, and a lawsuit had been filed.

In the meantime, the physician refuted the accusation and stated that he had to remove her right kidney because of damage to it. He has refuted the incorrectness of his observation.

Following the occurrence, Rajkumar Dangi, the Chief Medical Health Officer, assembled a team of five physicians to investigate the matter. He added that records from hospitals had also been taken.

According to a source, Dr. Dhankhar was employed by the BDK Government Hospital in Jhunjhunu as a surgeon. However, he was suspended in 2017 and put under an awaiting posting order (APO) following the death of a patient.

He was assigned to a village in the Churu district in 2020, but Dhankhar did not join.
