Woman Dumps Newborn on Street After Giving Birth in Bathroom

A 23-year-old woman gave birth to a newborn in her apartment bathroom and dumped the newborn on the street in Kochi.

According to the sources, the woman delivered the baby in the bathroom of her apartment in the early hours of Friday and she allegedly dumped the newborn on the street in a posh residential area in Kochi.

Around 8 am, the conservancy workers of Kochi Corporation discovered the child's body on a street in posh Panampilly Nagar in Kochi and immediately informed the police. The police said that the woman had been taken into custody after being traced using the address on the Amazon delivery packet in which the child was wrapped before being thrown.

As per the City Police Commissioner S Syamsunder, the woman admitted that she gave birth to the baby in her bathroom on Friday at around 5:30 am and later threw the baby as she panicked. The woman's parents, with whom she was staying with, were not aware of her pregnancy. The police suspect that there may be a involvement of coercion or rape elements. City Police Commissioner Syamsunder said that it is suspected that the girl was subjected to rape, in this matter also investigation will be done.

The police official said that they have shifted the survivor to the hospital to provide her proper medical attention and they understand that the parents are not aware of the pregnancy. He also said that further details regarding the child are awaited.

The city police said that a case will be filed and an arrest will be made shortly. Previously, the police had interrogated the woman and her parents in relation to the incident.
