Uttar Pradesh: Dentist Booked Under IPC 304A After Patient Dies Following Treatment

In Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki, a dentist and his compounder have been booked under IPC 304A for the patient’s death due to medical negligence

A shocking incident was revealed in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki, where a dentist and his compounder have been booked under IPC 304A for the patient’s death due to medical negligence. The patient had gone to them for the treatment of simple tooth pain.

The deceased is Mr. Ram Kuber Singh, who was 52 years old.  According to the police, Mr.Ram Kuber Singh had consulted Dr. AK Verma, a dentist, on October 23, 2023, for simple tooth pain.

For treatment purposes, Dr. Verma performed surgery on Ram Kuber’s tooth. However, after a certain period, apparently, which led to sepsis, Mr. Ram Kuber developed the symptoms, but at first he ignored the symptoms. He developed swelling on his face on November 15, and after that, he consulted another physician. The physician performed various tests and came to the conclusion that sepsis had spread to Mr. Ram Kuber’s overall body.

The physician started the treatment for sepsis, but unfortunately, Mr. Ram Kuber passed away on November 17 while undergoing treatment.

The FIR said, “The doctor operated on his tooth and took out three teeth. However, Ram Kuber’s mouth was swollen, and he was unable to consume water after surgery. In regard to this station house officer (SHO), Mohammadpur Khala, Vinod Kumar Yadav said, “We will soon take statements from the dentist.”

The deceased son, Shailendra, stated in his FIR that his father had complained of tooth pain and consulted the accused doctor, Dr. AK Verma, on October 27. The FIR said, “The doctor operated on his tooth and took out three teeth. However, Ram Kuber’s mouth was swollen, and he was unable to consume water after surgery. The deceased son, Shailendra, consulted the same doctor again, but he assured him that it was normal."

On November 15, Shailendra Singh took his father to another physician after the swelling worsened. The physician conducted tests and disclosed that an incorrect operation (maloperation) was done, which resulted in the spread of sepsis in Mr. Ram’s body. After two days, Mr. Ram died.

Senior police officials stated that a post-mortem report will be sought from the panel of doctors before going ahead with the investigation.
