4th February is observed as World Cancer Day. Cancer is considered one of the most dreadful and aggressive killers that have claimed more than 10 million lives in 2020, according to the WHO. Breast, Lung, Colon, Rectum & Prostate cancers are the most common Cancers. Though it is a severe health condition, with proper awareness, diagnosis, treatment, care & counseling, one can defeat this cold entity. With the ongoing research & technological advancements, there is hope that soon we will be able to understand cancers in a better way.

Being in the Healthcare profession, it is our responsibility to make people aware of cancers and try to fight back. Team MedBound, Dr. Aarti Nehra along with Dr Munish Raizada

MedBound Times got an opportunity to have a discussion on Cancer with some of the healthcare experts, here is what they had to say on this issue:

Dr Munish Raizada (MD, FAAP, Neonatologist, USA,  Founder & CEO at MedBound)

Cancer has become an industrial enterprise that some segments are feasting upon. Look at the food industry. Against the conventional norms of dietary habits, they create an environment where processed food, canned food, and chemically laden food (they call it preservatives) are inescapable. And when we look at root sources, we humans are eating foods that are contaminated with pesticides. In the name of modernization, we are breathing, eating, and drinking chemicals. The results are for everyone to see.

Dr Aarti Nehra [MBBS, MMST (IIT Kharagpur), Program Director & Sr. Editor at MedBound]

Cancer is a cruel condition that takes control over your body and wrecks havoc. Diet & lifestyle modifications & timely vaccinations can help prevent many cancers. Let’s all take a pledge and join the fight against cancer.

Dr Vishal Kaura (MD Radiology resident at PESIMSR, Andhra Pradesh)

Cancer has long been one of the most feared diseases. It is widely regarded as synonymous with the death sentence. Contrary to the gloomy public image, epidemiological analysis shows that cancer survival rates are steadily improving.

Dr Monika Suryanarayanan (General Physician, Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi)

Life will not be difficult if we are not afraid to consult doctors early. Together we can create a healthy and smart world. As Doctors, we all stand with you today and ever to fight for you and to give hope and the best treatment/care possible.

Dr Aniket Manekar (General Physician, Mumbai)

Cancer aka the ‘Modern evil’. Once an absolute, untreatable disease, now a dangerous but manageable one. I think with proper guidance, diagnostic strategies & treatment regimen one can deal with cancer efficiently. Awareness plays a huge role when it comes to handling the issue of any healthcare challenges.

Dr Darshit Patel (General Physician, Medical Lead, MedBound)

A lifestyle disease, cancers are a cumulative result of Environmental, Intrinsic, and Lifestyle choices, genetics & many such factors. These factors keep on increasing with time and more & more deviation from the norms. Yes, I said ‘deviation’ because, with so-called ‘Shortcuts’, tasty processed foods, bizarre laws & negligence, humans are doomed forever. Healthcare professionals & systems all together are burdened with the increasing incidences of cancer, especially due to the co-existence of cancer & its causative factors. Awareness and strict laws/guidelines are very much required.

Join the fight against this detestable foe. Spread awareness and not fear.
