As someone who was really passionate about botany, I decided to go for a Master's degree in the same. But things turned out when I got introduced to the tech part by a teacher which I got fascinated by and decided to start a new venture in biotechnology.
As soon as I planned to pursue a master's in biotechnology, challenges got served to my platter. Challenges which were not in terms of career or job, but in terms of college accepting students with no biotechnology background. Even after being one of the top rankers from the university entrance exam, I still got rejected because of not having a biotechnology background.
There I came across Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College (GGDSD) college accepting students with open arms irrespective of their background. So after time-long hunting for colleges, and universities, finally in 2017, I got into GGDSD college to pursue my master's in biotechnology.
Carrying the baggage of mixed feelings of happiness, fear, and discomfort, I attended my first class. To my surprise, the Biostatistics professor welcomed students in a unique way. The picture below says it all. The Selfie was taken by the professor in the very first class of biostatistics.
GGDSD college is an accredited A+ grade college, ranked 27th college in science by India Today Ranking and is also selected in “FIST program” by D.S.T. New Delhi.
The campus of the college is well structured with all amenities provided to students with no compromise in the quality of education and research. The result of college over the years says all that this college has to offer to its students. My curriculum included subjects like microbiology, genetic engineering, molecular biology, bioinformatics, drug development, and biostatistics.
How can I not mention the fests conducted by the college which have not failed in making students unload their stress and fill their bags with new memories and treasures. The highly qualified professors and student-friendly environment of college have been a thing that has shaped me as a biotechnologist and directed me toward creating a successful career.
It has been a roller coaster ride for me but the last year of my master's has really helped me in so many aspects. Research experience was one of the most important aspects. I was successfully able to do my research project and complete my thesis under the guidance of my professor who then became my mentor. From being a researcher in a small lab to presenting my thesis at a science festival, this college has given me all.
The list of things that I learned from the lab is what I am going to carry throughout my life. From handling equipment, learning about the latest research, and literature study, honing my technical skills, and problem-solving abilities, and most importantly, the importance of teamwork and communication in the scientific community.
And how can I not express my gratitude towards my batchmates. Working hours and hours, and still being so happy to meet each one of them. I don’t think anyone can actually replicate the environment of class and lab in terms of teamwork, hard work, working together, being delighted with each other’s success and the list goes on.
This was my journey in studying biotechnology in GGDSD college and I strongly recommend aspiring candidates to kickstart their journey in this exciting and dynamic field in this college.
