According to reports, on 11th June 2024, the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration authorities recalled three products under the famous South Korean brand Samyang, deeming them dangerously spicy with capsaicin levels high enough to cause ‘acute poisoning.’
The three products are the Buldak 3X spicy and hot chicken, 2X spicy and hot chicken, and Hot chicken stew.
The Danish authorities have warned sensitive adults and children about consuming these products. They have issued a statement asking the public who have purchased these products to either discard them or return them to the retail stores.
The Danish authorities have advised people to look out for symptoms after consuming these products and seek help via the Poison line in case of acute poisoning symptoms.
Capsaicin is the active component of chili pepper that gives out the burning spicy taste of the pepper. The symptoms of Capsaicin poisoning include a burning sensation, discomfort, nausea, vomiting, and increased blood pressure.
According to sources, the South Korean food manufacturing company Samyang has issued a reassurance stating it is not the quality that led to the recall of the product by the Danish authorities but the spice levels, and they have also added that they will be looking more closely into local regulation in the export market.
