Some people are naturally hairier than others, while it's completely normal to have body and facial hair—even for those assigned female at birth. For some people, that may mean having a little more peach fuzz on their cheeks than their friends, but for others, it could mean a handful of thick chin hair. You might be witnessing hirsutism on your face if this describes you.

Being a woman with a skin problem can be a source of isolation and frustration, particularly if it defies conventional standards of beauty. However, it's important to note that hirsutism is a common skin issue.

Dr. Roshni Mishra, who is an MBBS and MD dermatologist, took to Instagram and shared her opinion through a video on hirsutism. Dr. Roshni shared one video from her Instagram handle, @skinbyrosh. She has discussed exactly what hirsutism is. And what is the permanent solution for this condition? She explained that male pattern growth in females, usually on the jawline area, is known as hirsutism. While talking about the reason behind it, she added that the main cause behind this is the increased level of testosterone in the body, which leads to the growth of thick hair on the face. Generally, it is a common symptom of PCOD.

Dr. Roshni has suggested that you visit a dermatologist for treatment of this condition. She further added that the dermatologist would perform some blood tests to know what the internal problem was.

Later on, Dr. Roshni said that you can definitely opt for permanent laser hair reduction because that is the only permanent solution for hirsutism, along with the use of medicine to cure overall hormonal imbalance.

Hirsutism is excessive hair growth mostly around the mouth and chin. With hirsutism, extra hair growth often occurs due to excess male hormones (androgens), especially testosterone. Women who want to treat hirsutism can turn to both effective treatments and self-care methods. 1

According to My Cleveland Clinic, hirsutism affects 5% to 10% of women and people assigned female at birth who are around childbearing age. It affects over 40% of women and is assigned female at birth at some point in their lives. 2
