The police said that the family of the girl stated uncertainty that the drug overdose may have been intentional to murder her.

The accused Vivek Moury, during interrogation, told police that his thrill-seeking experiment had gone wrong. The accused also said that the girl called him while leaving the residence and sought to consume the addictive drug.

Vivek Moury told police that he took the girl to a friend's vacant plot in Tiwariganj, where he mixed smack in Avil injection. Vivek first administered it to himself and then injected the girl with it.

Based on the complaint by the deceased mother, the BBD police took the accused into custody and then sent the girl’s body for a post-mortem. ACP Anindya Vikram Singh said that the accused Vivek Moury (28) alias Vikas of Barabanki, has been arrested. The accused was staying at Mahanagar and was friends with the victim. He also said that the BBD police registered the FIR under IPC section 302 (Murder) but it was changed to IPC section 304 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder) during the investigation.

At the vacant plot, the police found a syringe and a pack of smack. The police investigation also disclosed that there was no one involved except the girl and the accused.
