A new Government Medical College and Hospital in Jajpur, Odisha, has received approval from the National Medical Commission to offer 50 MBBS seats. The seats for the 2024–2025 school year have been approved.

As per reports, the institution was first granted permission for 50 MBBS seats, but that number will eventually be increased to 100. Odisha now has 12 government medical colleges overall, and 1,600 MBBS seats are available as a result of the establishment of the new college.

“Happy to share that 50 MBBS seats have been approved by the National Medical Commission, New Delhi, for the academic year 2024-25 for the new Government MCH at Jajpur,” the Department of Health and Family Welfare stated on Thursday on X in a post.

Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital is the name of the recently established college in Jajpur. The institution has the name of Jajati Keshari, who is said to have founded Jajpur and was a Somavansi Prince of ancient Odisha in the 11th century.

The National Medical Commission, which is the statutory body responsible for regulating medical education, medical professionals, institutions, and research in the nation, approved an application to establish a medical college and hospital in Jaijur under the direction of the Orissa University of Health Sciences, Bhubaneswar. The application sought to establish 100 MBBS seats for the 2024–2025 academic year.
