Rajasthan: 2-Year-Old Dies After Alleged Wrong Injection

After the administration of the injection, the child became unconscious. The child passed away on Friday in Jaipur Hospital during the treatment.

A 22-month-old boy in a hospital in Bharatpur, Rajasthan died after the alleged administration of anesthesia. The family filed a complaint against the hospital owner.

The family contended that the child named Kanha was admitted to a private hospital in Bharatpur for a hernia operation. He was administered an anesthesia injection. After the administration of the injection, the child became unconscious. The child passed away on Friday in Jaipur Hospital during the treatment. The family of the child filed a complaint at Mathura Gate police station against the hospital owner Dr. Govind Gupta indicting him of administering the wrong injection to the child. The post-mortem of the child was conducted on Saturday at RBM Hospital. After the post-mortem, the police handed over the child’s body to his family members.

Talking to the media, Karan Singh, Mathura Gate police station officer said that the complaint was filed by the child's father Hari Singh, a local of Kaunthara district, Mathura (UP). In the complaint, he cited that the child named Kanha was diagnosed with a hernia. The family reached Bharataput on March 5 for hernia operation. On the same evening, the child was taken to the operating theater. In the operation theater, the Kanha was administered an injection in the arm and then in the spinal cord. However, after administering the injection near his spinal cord, his eyes remained wide open.

Inside the operation theater, the hospital staff tried to revive the child by pressing his chest. Thereafter, the doctor informed the boy’s family that the child’s brain stopped functioning and they were instructed to move the child to Jaipur immediately. After that, the child was admitted to a private hospital in Jaipur, where the doctor declared that the child was brain dead with minimal chances of survival. The child passed away on Friday afternoon. The family of Kanha alleged that the child died after the administration of the wrong injection. Based on the complaint of the boy’s father the police filed a case and an investigation is undergoing.
